Jane Sleeping
Ruth Whittier

… so we never hear of Jane anymore, even after she was caught on film walking on water.

… and with the money I raise I can rise up and walk away.

… and there were mud storms that changed what you said or knew you wanted by the hour.

… because it won’t slide down but sticks.

… because you wore your glasses and white (buttoned) night gown.

… so now you won’t leave the house and take it all outside.

… and now you’re unwilling to go bare-assed even down the backstairs.

… therefore there’s a therefore, almost an ending that existed at the start.
