On nights I can’t forgive you—

be it for the blue deep of
unanswered text messages, or
the way you stretch yourself over me
& Interstate 70          —a furrowed infinity
dug of hot breath & gummed asphalt,

ache in the plain shape of your abandon
touches down, casts itself a monster

walking my walls in a space
too flat to forget you.
