Cartoon Saturday
Bruce McRae

In a cartoon world
heart-shaped eyes pop out
at the sight of a dame.

Logic floats through a window
like a horse blissed out
on the aroma of pie.

Cats wearing hats
defy the laws of gravity.
Talking dogs crack wise
in pursuit of their love –
a member of another species.

It’s all good fun –
when a heavy object falls
on a troublemaking mouse
with a peculiar accent.
Because we all know,
in our heart of hearts,
he had it coming.
